Keith Haring was an American artist and activist known for his iconic paintings and street art. After moving to New York City in the late 1970s he became immersed in the city's street culture. He first began to attract widespread attention with his spontaneous subway drawings. His later work often addressed political and social issues, especially homosexuality and AIDS. Juan Rivera was an artist and Haring's partner from 1985 until shortly before Haring's death in 1990.
