Gemini G.E.L.
February 15 – April 15, 2024

The Beverly Hills Hotel, in collaboration with Hedges Projects, presents an exhibition of fine art prints from Gemini G.E.L., a renowned publisher of print and sculpture editions based in Los Angeles since 1966. Gemini, a sought-after hub for artists exploring creative opportunities in prints and multiples, is known for fostering collaborative relationships with the artists invited to work at their print studios. On display are works by artists with longstanding relationships with Gemini, including John Baldessari, Sophie Calle, Tacita Dean, Darryl Pottorf, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, and Richard Serra.

John Baldessari’s screenprints appropriate found imagery from movie film stills, pay homage to Los Angeles's cinematic history, and explore expression and social interaction. Sophie Calle analyzes the performative relationship between public and private lives in Tapis de Fleur (2014), publicly displaying her personal friendship with L.A.-based architect Frank Gehry. Tacita Dean's L.A. Magic Hour (2021) lithographs capture the iconic Los Angeles sunsets in a mesmerizing moment of beautiful gradients and cloud formations. Robert Rauschenberg, one of the first artists to work at Gemini, and his longtime friend turned collaborator, Darryl Pottorf, encapsulate the diverse and iconic landmarks of 90s Los Angeles in the screenprint collage images of their Quattro Mani L.A. (1998) diptychs. Ed Ruscha, the subject of a major touring retrospective, is celebrated for his profound artistic influence on the Los Angeles art scene through his innovative use of language and exploration of the city's urban and cultural landscape, which is showcased in the print Unstructured Merriment (2015), capturing a local Los Angeles home. Richard Serra, after initial experimentations in art school, immersed himself in printmaking in 1972 and has since created over 300 editions with Gemini, many of which explore his sculpture endeavors, conceptualizing mass, weight, and movement.

This curated exhibition invites patrons to explore the rich history and creative dialogues between these visionary artists and Gemini G.E.L.

The exhibition is complimentary and open to the public daily.
